When it comes to creativity and innovation, Aurora Public Schools students continue to make a name for themselves. Many of those highly sought-after attributes will be on display at the May 11 Aurora Borealis Film Festival.

The event, which will showcase and recognize students' film production talent, is a first for APS. The project allowed students to tap into their 21st century skills – reading, writing, critical thinking and problem solving – to create short films, videos, PSAs and commercials.

"Film gives students a platform to share their ideas, opinions, and thoughts about the world in which they live," said APS Technology Coach and project organizer Nicholas Steinmetz. "Many students seek to address issues such as social or world problems, and they love to tell stories through film."

The film festival will feature 15 submissions by students from Hinkley and William Smith high schools, Vista Peak Exploratory and Vista Peak Preparatory.
