Nothing screams fun like football in the spring, and for many seventh- and eighth-grade students in Aurora Public Schools, that fun has become a positive addiction worth fueling.
The Futures Program, a cooperative effort between APS and the Denver Broncos that began in 2014, provides opportunities for middle school students to play against each other and prepare them for life as a high school football player. The program recently hosted its third championship game -- this time between Aurora Central High School and Vista PEAK Preparatory -- at the Aurora Public Schools Stadium before a large crowd of supporters, including Denver Broncos players and honorary captains Kapri Bibbs, Virgil Green, John Tidwell and Eddie Yarbrough.
In addition to giving the young students a chance to play competitively, the Futures Program also incorporates character building through Project PAVE, a nonprofit organization that promotes alternatives to violence through education.
